What to know before you book

Can R+R be my child's primary care provider and provide annual well visits?

Yes! We provide primary care and annual well visits for children from birth through age 18 and can coordinate with specialists, manage prescriptions, and maintain your child's medical records. Annual well-checks and sick visits are available to all patients.

Can you see my child the same or next day if they're sick?

Absolutely! We do our best to offer same-day and next-day availability for sick visits. New patients are always welcome and no established relationship is required. Call 817-720-6220 Ext. 2 to schedule.

Do you offer telemedicine for pediatric visits?

Yes, telemedicine appointments are available for patients residing in Texas. Note your preference when scheduling. If you're outside of Texas, call us to discuss options.

Which provider will see my child for pediatric visits?

Shane Rainey, DO and Emmaline Rhodes, FNP-C are the providers for primary pediatrics.

‍Kate Quintanilla, MPAS, PA-C,  Eden Brown, FNP-C, or Dabney Poorter, FNP-C might also see your child on their pediatric visit, but only as needed for sick visits to ensure timely availability for your sick visit needs.

Are children with chronic conditions or special health needs welcome?

Yes. We welcome children of all health backgrounds. Our functional medicine approach is tailored to each child's unique needs, whether your child has a chronic condition or you simply want a more thorough approach to their care.

Are there R+R wellness therapies that can support my child?

Yes! Several R+R therapies are available for children including ozone insufflation, BOOO, hyperbaric therapy (with a referral), massage therapy, and more. For a comprehensive list, please visit our Pediatric Wellness Services page. Your provider can incorporate these directly into your child's care plan.

What is your approach to childhood vaccinations?

As a practice, we support families in making informed healthcare decisions that align with their values and beliefs. While we can provide vaccines, we do not require vaccination to be a part of our practice.

Note: Our office does not carry all vaccines in-office, however we can order most vaccines to be administered in our office on a scheduled date. When needed, patients can also visit CVS or the local Health Department for any vaccine needs.

Do you provide vaccination exemptions?

In Texas, two types of exemptions are available:

Reason of Conscience Exemption

This exemption does not require a doctor’s signature. You can download the form from the Texas Department of State Health Services website here and it must be notarized to be valid. Once notarized, it is valid for two years from the notarization date.

Medical Exemption

Some children may have valid medical reasons for not getting certain vaccines. A licensed physician (MD or DO) who has examined your child can provide a written, signed note explaining why specific vaccines are medically contraindicated or pose a significant risk to your child’s health. Schools and child-care centers must accept this physician’s statement as a medical exemption. Unless the doctor states that the condition is lifelong, the exemption is valid for one year from the date the physician signs it.

Will you prescribe medication for my child?

As a functional medicine practice, our priority is always to identify and address the root causes of your child’s health concerns. We focus on supporting the body’s natural healing processes whenever possible. That said, when medications are necessary to safely treat a condition or manage symptoms, our providers will prescribe them and work closely with your family to ensure the best outcomes.

Do you accept insurance?

We’ve chosen not to contract with insurance so we can provide more personalized, in-depth care. Insurance-based models often require shorter visits, limit the types of testing and treatments that can be ordered, and require providers to follow strict billing codes rather than individual patient needs. By operating outside of those constraints, we’re able to focus on root-cause care, longer appointments, and treatment plans tailored specifically to you.

We accept HSA/FSA for supplements, specialty tests, and clinical fees. After your visit, our team provides a superbill with itemized receipts and diagnostic codes that you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement.

Does insurance cover the cost of bloodwork?

To find out which labs (ex. Quest, LabCorp) are in-network with your insurance plan, call the member service number on the back of your insurance card or log in to your insurance provider's member portal.

Depending on your coinsurance and deductible, lab testing sometimes requires a copay or out-of-pocket fee. Blood work is billed directly from the processing lab facility to your insurance plan. The remaining cost can vary depending on your insurance plan type and benefits.

Please note our office gets special discounted cash pricing on labs that could be cheaper than your insurance coverage. Call or email us to get your discounted cash pricing. If you are using insurance for your blood work, R+R is unable to provide a cash estimate for the remaining out-of-pocket costs.

When speaking with a representative from your insurance company, many members find it helpful to ask a few of the following questions:

- What is my current deductible status?

- I’m working with an out-of-network provider. Do I have out-of-network lab coverage?

- What is my preferred in-network lab provider? Can I complete testing at Any Lab Test Now, Quest, or LabCorp?

- What coverage can I expect for the following testing? Please ask your medical provider for a CPT document for your specific lab order, which will include both the billable CPT and ICD-10 diagnosis codes. By providing these codes, a representative will be able to advise which tests are eligible for coverage based on your plan.

Does insurance cover specialty lab tests?

At R+R, your testing options go far beyond the basic blood panel you might receive at a typical primary care physician’s office. As well as comprehensive blood testing, we also offer a variety of specialty tests which assess allergies, gut health, toxic metals, hormones, genetics, and more. These tests may include saliva, urine, and stool testing.

All specialty testing is billed directly to the patient. These tests can be submitted for out-of-network reimbursement or paid for using FSA/HSA funds. Please note that these tests are not typically covered by insurance.

Our functional medicine team can provide you with the cash-pay price of these specialty tests. The price generally ranges between $100-$400.

Our team will work with you to customize a health plan that satisfies your budget based on your health needs. Our recommendations are always established considering your individual goals; we are not incentivized to order these specialty tests.

Where do I send my previous medical records?

Please send any relevant paperwork or documentation via fax to 817-765-9033.
