Nutrition through a functional lens

Our nutrition consultations go beyond surface-level recommendations to understand your body, your lifestyle, and what it truly needs to function at its best. Rather than focusing only on calories or macros, our registered dietitians take a functional approach that considers factors like your gut microbiome, food sensitivities, hormonal patterns, inflammation markers, metabolic rate, and how your body responds to food.

Working alongside our functional medicine team, we treat food as what it actually is: one of the most powerful tools available for addressing the root causes of health concerns. We'll build a plan around your goals, preferences, and unique needs to give you a more sustainable path to lasting results.

Nutrition Consultation FAQs

What's the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a licensed healthcare professional with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in dietetics, a clinical internship, and a national licensing exam. The title is protected by law. "Nutritionist" is an unregulated title in most states that anyone can use regardless of training or credentials. All R+R nutrition consultations are provided by credentialed Registered Dietitians.

What should I book first?

If you're new to R+R and primarily focused on nutrition, start with the Initial Nutrition Consultation (90 min). If you want to go deeper on lifestyle factors alongside nutrition like detox, inflammation, hormones, and personal care, the Nutrition + Lifestyle Consultation (2 hours) covers more ground in one appointment. If you want data on your body composition and metabolism built into your first plan, consider the Body Balance Meal Plan.

What is InBody analysis and how does it work?

InBody uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (a small, safe electrical current sent through the body) to measure your muscle mass, body fat percentage, segmental lean mass, visceral fat level, and total body water in about 10 minutes. It gives a far more detailed picture of body composition than a scale or BMI calculation alone. Available as a standalone session or included in the Body Balance Meal Plan.

Can nutrition consultations help with specific medical conditions?

Yes! Our dietitians have clinical training in medically-related nutrition. They commonly work with clients managing high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, food sensitivities, and gastrointestinal conditions. For complex cases, our nutrition team works alongside R+R's functional medicine providers for a fully integrated approach.

How often should I come for follow-up appointments?

This depends on your goals and how your plan is progressing. After an initial consultation, your dietitian will recommend a follow-up schedule. Many clients benefit from monthly check-ins while actively implementing a new plan, tapering to quarterly as things become established. There's no one-size-fits-all cadence.

What do I need to do before my Body Balance Meal Plan appointment?

Three things: no exercise the day of your appointment, fast for 4 hours before your session, and avoid stimulants including caffeine. These protocols ensure your InBody and metabolic rate results are accurate. Your appointment will need to be rescheduled if these are not followed.

Are nutrition services covered by insurance?

We do not accept health insurance at our office. However, we do accept payment using HSA/FSA for nutrition consults. After your visit, our administration team will furnish you with a “superbill” with itemized receipts and coordinating diagnostic codes that you can submit to insurance for reimbursement. Please call your carrier to be certain you have the documents needed from our team to complete the claim.
